Logo Vivat ViaduktIn 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 after the anniversary festivities "Vivat Viaduct" 2003, the fascination of the railway attracted thousands and thousands of people into the otherwise quiet and peaceful Egge Community of Altenbeken. All of them wanted to experience railway history on the great "Railway Activity Day" at first hand.

Nostalgic railway enthusiasts, amateur photographers and "little train engine drivers" are already anticipating the colourful and varied programme on the rails and in the town at the "Vivat Viaduct 2015" festival.

Other Rambling Routes

Eggeweg (The Egge Route)

The Egge Route is an ancient Hanse connection, which allows ramblers to walk for miles without encountering any built-up areas or public roads. The Egge Route, the mountain-ridge walk across the Egge Mountains and part of the "European Long Distance Rambling Route No. 1" is approx. 70kms long and links the Teutoburger Forest in the North with the Sauerland in the South.
This route was the first rambling route in Germany to be awarded the quality seal "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" (Quality Route Walkable Germany) by the German Rambling Association and in 2007 this award was bestowed for the second time. Beautiful views into the "Paderborner and the Coveryer Land" may be enjoyed along this over 400m high mountain range. Numerous springs feed the "Beke and the Ellerbach" mountain brooks, but after a short flow its waters soon trickle away into the karstic, permeable ground. Other brooks, like the "Durbeke" only carry water after the snow has melted or very heavy rainfalls.
